Simple Summer Decorating Ideas For My Home

I have always loved the lazy days of summer. I really like my home to reflect that simple relaxed uncomplicated vibe of the season. Here I’ll share a few things I do to get my home ready for summer.

Color: I like to simplify my color scheme to mirror the season. Nothing reminds me of summer more than blue and white. I pulled out my blue and neutral pillow covers and played around until I arrived at this pillow combination. 

Colored glass bottles, sea shells, and coral are perfect summer decor items!

In my living room I kept my throw pillow count to a minimum and decided on this simple grey and white bold floral print. I stashed all my faux fur and cozy knit throw blankets away and brought out this light weight cotton throw instead.

Flowers: I always love faux or real blooms in my home no matter what the season. For summer, I’m trying to keep my blooms light by choosing white or pastel shades.  

Layers: I put a limit on layering my decor. Usually my home is full of layering (i.e. rugs on top of rugs). For summer, I have pulled up some rugs and am using natural fiber rugs or leaving the wood floors bare.

Whites: This is the time of year I take a critical look at my bath towels for wear and tear. I love plush white stacks of towels for use in my bathrooms.  

Seasonal artwork: I have a stash of prints that reflect the seasons. This canoe photo reminds me of summer vacation at the lake. It’s the perfect print for my summer decor!

You may wonder why my fireplace is on. I hate the idea of turning on the heater in the summer, but honestly we have some very cold foggy mornings on the Monterey Bay. So our fireplace is on a lot in the summer.

Outdoors: My dining room is never used in the summer months. A simple white ginger jar lantern with a battery candle is all the decor I use in my dining room for summer.

I love taking entertaining outdoors for summer. Using the outside grill for dinner keeps my kitchen clean which makes me very happy. I try to keep my table relaxed with recycled glass and a easy display of seasonal blooms.
