Bedroom Decorating Ideas: Before and After

Bedroom Decorating Ideas: Before and After

Some of us love changing our home decor around to make our homes seasonal and welcoming. I have been wanting to make changes in my bedroom for a while. I would love to buy new furniture for the bedroom but my budget won't allow it. I'll be sharing with you some of my quick and easy changes I made to give my bedroom a whole new look and feel.

Welcome to our monthly blog hop! This month we are focusing on spaces we have refreshed or restyled in our homes. I'm so happy to be meeting those of you hopping over from Kim & Lacey's blog Styled With Lace. They are an amazingly talented decorating duo. I know you were inspired by their designs! A special thank you to my followers; I so appreciate you coming back for more decorating adventures! Before we start, thanks to Janine at Happy Happy Nester for organizing these fun blog hops! Now on to my bedroom!

ย

Yikes! I cringe looking back at these "before" photos. So dark and uninviting....

I brought one of my thick wool rugs up from downstairs. It lightens up the bedroom and adds so much texture. I've always had these sheepskin rugs; every fall I seem to pick one up at Costco. When at home we mostly run around barefoot. It feels luxurious to step out of bed onto the soft rug.

I didn't repaint the walls (my husband was grateful for that) but I did paint the bed. It was so simple with Annie Sloane Chalk Paint. I brushed on the grey paint then wiped it off with a rag for a distressed look. I painted the nightstand a solid grey, then I sprayed the knobs gold. I painted the bed last year, but I was sidetracked and didn't get back to decorating this space until recently.

When I saw this gorgeous print of peonies, I knew I had to have it. That and the pretty peony pillow are the inspiration for my bedroom. I hung a ledge above the headboard for interest, then I leaned the artwork against the wall. Since I live in California, this artwork is wired to screws so that in case an earthquake happens it won't fall off.

I moved my favorite chair from downstairs up to the bedroom. I created a solitary retreat for reading or scrolling through my iPad uninterrupted. It's so nice having this space.

This nightstand was a new purchase from HomeGoods. I needed the height for this tall bed. Its neutral color and mirror trim make this piece special and added much more needed storage space.

Luckily, changing the look of the bed can be as easy as changing the linens. Your choice of bed linens can change your bed to be romantic, tailored, layered, luxurious, or plain. For the bedding I went to HomeGoods. It was my lucky day because waiting for me was this king size blush pink quilt! I wanted the pink to pop so everything else I kept white, except for a bit of grey in the shams to tie into the painted bed color.

I've had this sweet little desk forever. I gave it new life with white chalk paint and sprayed this old giveaway mirror white as well. For the perfect finishing touch, I bought this beautiful lucite stool at HomeGoods. Now I have a private place where I can inspect my wrinkles and blow-dry my hair.

The white bed feels cloud-like. With this palette of white and creamy grey combined with neutrals, this bedroom seems to scream quiet and evoke a sense of calm. I love having this space to retire to at night.

Yes, I do need the stool for getting in and out of this tall bed!

Thank you so much for stopping by to see the easy steps I've taken to change the look of my bedroom. I hope I have given you a few ideas for any decor changes you have planned. xoxo~joan
