When the new year begins I like to refresh my home. New year, new start, new look! Sometimes it's as simple as moving furniture or decor items to new spaces. Or sometimes I need to take a shopping trip to infuse new life and interest into my rooms. My home office was looking neglected. I wanted to refresh this space and fill it with decor pieces that would inspire me for decorating in 2017. I was stuck on just how to refresh my home office space until I took a shopping trip to HomeGoods.

I moved everything out of my home office and started with a clean slate. The first item I brought in was a fluffy sheepskin rug! I love the texture on my toes and my dog loves curling up on it while I work. Then I added a white desk and sheer Belgian linen white drapes on the windows to let in as much sunlight as possible. Giant glass bottles on either side of the window hold huge palm leaves for color and texture.

I had some bookshelf ledges that I thought could add function to the space. Then off to HomeGoods for accessories!

You all know how it feels when you find that one item; you are inspired and you have to have it. Don't laugh, but that's what happened to me when I saw this octopus! He was perfect! White matte finish, gold accents, and adorable with a nautical feel. I live close to the ocean and hear the waves crashing at night, but I had never really used a nautical decor theme in my home. So I kept my eyes open at HomeGoods for items with a nautical vibe or items with a white, bright finish. I wasn't disappointed.

I liked the white coral mounted on lucite and continued that feel with this nautilus shell. They also had the white quartz rock mounted on lucite which is on the desk. I love this bright clean look for this spring! The gold magnifying glass is perfect for the home office.

When refreshing any space fresh flowers or plants are a must. I love this hand blown glass paper weight that was a gift from my special auntie. It represents the moon. Looking at the space I realize how overhead pendant lighting or a chandelier would compliment and complete my design. Lighting is so important in an office. I want lighting that will also bring beauty and inspiration to my space since I spend so much of my time here.

Finding this cute little tray from HomeGoods made my day! Sometimes it's the little things that add so much to a design.

Even though I do a lot of work on my computer, iPad, and iPhone I still like a calendar I can write in. This beautiful day planner is from HomeGoods.

I love the way my home office refresh looks! I think it has inspired me to continue this light, bright, nautical theme throughout the rest of my home this spring. And to think the inspiration came from a little octopus!
